Product Description An updated, highly organized internal frame technical pack for day trips or school.
Amazon.com Product Description Hikers know the value of a good daypack, which must be comfortable, moderately spacious, and versatile. Enter the JanSport Odyssey, a roomy 2,350-cubic-inch daypack that meets all of the above requirements with ease. The Odyssey is equipped with such ergonomic features as dual Biovent shoulder straps and a lightweight, highly breathable Ventech back panel. The Biovent shoulder straps, which are made of extremely lightweight molded foam, are designed to conform to your body and evenly distribute the pressure, so you still feel as comfortable on mile five as you did when starting out. The straps also include angled vent holes to provide maximum ventilation and keep the shoulders cooler. The Ventech back panel, meanwhile, not only protects your body from objects within the pack, but is also engineered with its own circulation grooves to increase ventilation and create airflow. Storage-wise, the Odyssey includes two large main compartments that can hold everything from sack lunches to rain gear to first-aid kits. Add in a deluxe utility pocket with an organizer for essentials, an easy-access V-loft pocket, and a zippered front stash pocket and you have plenty of storage for both full-day hikes and school outings. Other details include a die-cut hypalon grab handle, daisy-chain quick-clip points, dual side water bottle pockets, side compression straps for load management, a hydration sleeve, and an ice axe loop. The Odyssey--which is made of 210 boxcar derby, 420-denier Velocity nylon, and 3480 double junior--measures 14 by 20 by 12 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 3 pounds 1 ounce. | Customer Reviews: great backpack June 28, 2010 cl 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great backpack. I'm a graduate student who likes to study in coffee shops so I'm constantly lugging books and what not from point A to point B. My old backpack was giving me back and shoulder aches, so I purchased this one for the comfort straps and the back support as well as the hip straps.
What a difference!! I don't normally use the hip straps when commuting to and from campus, but it's super nice that it can be tucked away into a pocket. The back is supported with a strong hard backing which makes all the difference in the world for my shoulders and lower back. The shoulder straps are nice and cushioned. There are a ton of pockets, which is actually a drawback for me as I constantly lose stuff, forgetting which pocket I stuck which thing.
I recently took a 50 mile biking trip and so our overnight clothing and water and toiletries had to be carried in our packs. My boyfriend and I originally thought I'd take his pack because it was smaller and lighter, but it quickly began to give me shoulder problems. So we switched. Even though my backpack was the heavier one, when I used the hip straps, there was practically no weight on my shoulders for the entire ride.
Now we're looking to buy a second one for him.
School backpack?... May 26, 2010 VoodooHendrix I'm a high school student who uses this as his backpack. I go through one about every 2-3 years (i'm in the 12 grade now), so I've gone through a good share of backpacks.
I had to replace my old one because of the holes. I missed it because it had one of the LARGEST pockets for storing books and binders that i could find in REI. As per REI's policy, i got a 100 percent refund and bought this.
I have this backpack in green, and it looks very good. Nice earthy colors.
The shoulder straps are very nice, and the torso and waist clips work (dont use them during the school day). The back flaps can be stored away, which is a big plus because you dont need to have the large plastic clip digging into your spine (something I did for almost an entire year until i found the pocket to store it away in). There are similar straps on the side of the backpack to 'squish it down' a bit.
The water bottle holder works well--mesh coverings, not much to say about it.
The backpack contains a large amount of pockets. The upper most carries my lunch, and it can hold a good amount. The biggest compartment can hold a TON of stuff--i am very impressed. The second largest pocket can hold other vital items...i put my waterbotle and calculator in there, along with an umbrella. The next pocket contains an area for a phone, pencils, and other misc. items. The pencil holders are quite nice, and you can store valuable little things there. Pencil sharpener, tissues, pens, etc. The next pocket is pretty small--i store emergency stuff there like safty blanket and 2 or 3 bucks. The last pocket is in the very front, and i store a pair of gloves in it. This is very handy because i can open it up and take out my gloves on a cold day without taking the backpack off--i just reach behind me. (lots of pockets, like i said.)
Everything is very well built, and the only gripe i have about it is that for TSA locks, you can't attach one to the top pockets as there is only one zipper.
EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE. The back has these little grooves that are...ohh..so nice. This is my favorite backpack out of all the backpacks I have owned..i hope it can last me through college!
note: i've used it for hiking a few times also, and it works well for that.

Very well built. Large internal volume for carrying all sorts of things. I thought it came with a water dispenser and internal reservoir, but there is a lateral pocket for cans and bottles. The compartment for storing documents and folders should have a larger opening, the way it is you need to struggle a little to fit A4-sized papers for example.
