i bought this bag for college, so i can fit all my books and my laptop if i needed it
its seems well made and durable, its like the material of jansport backpacks, and doesn't hold it doesn't hold its shape, so you can fold it up easily if needed
it gets a bit uncomfortable if you fill it to the max, but that would probably be the case with any messenger bag
i would've given it a 5/5, but on the strap, one part is sewed to the bag, and the other end is looped around a plastic ring to allow adjustment, because of the ring, sometimes it tends to rotate and crunch up the strap, warping the material because its bunched there
but its an excellent bag
Like the bag, would like a carry handle on it. June 14, 2008
The bag is spacious, durable, and attractive (for a bag). It would be very useful to have a handle strap in addition to the shoulder strap.

I have had a Manhattan Portage DJ Bag (med) for about 5 years. Not a single rip or tear. I have thrown it in the washer, kicked it around subways, taken it through rain storms and thrown it out of windows. And still this bag is in pretty good condition.
I have had two "other brand" shoulder bags which ended up in shreds. Either the strap fell apart or actual bag ripped. I have not encountered any of these problems with my Manhattan Portage bag.

I bought this bag about a year ago as a replacement for a series of much cheaper black messenger bags, and this one is by far the best I've had. It looks about as new as when I first bought it, and it takes quite a beating on a regular basis as I use it every day. Even in black, it doesn't show dirt or attract pet hair.
What I love about this bag the most is its size. It never feels too big for everyday, but magically expands when I need to put in some small purchases, my lunch, soda bottles, papers, etc. On vacation, it's perfect- I like to carry my large DSLR camera and maybe an extra lens with me, but I don't want to carry a camera bag for fear of being mugged. This fits all of it (along with maps, of course) and I look normal- perfect!

I bought this bag to replace a Victorinox bag.
MP DJ bag has a straight forward, simple design, which is very attractive. The interior has two compartments, one is zippered, the other is not, but has more depth. DJ bag is made of high quality material. I toss it around in car, train, office, for a year and it still looks brand new! The bag looks like it can easily last 10 years.
DJ bag of medium size can fit my 13" Macbook just fine. Though I wouldnt recommend putting any laptop for a long period of time, because DJ bag does not have padding. You can get sleeve for laptop, then put the laptop+sleeve in the bag.
The number of colors offered on DJ bag is impressive. There is an optional to buy a shoulder if you want.
