Amazon.com Product Description
Expressly designed for students and casual business travelers, the Columbia Tumalo cyberpack not only accommodates a laptop in its internal padded sleeve, but also offers a ton of additional space for storing the rest of your gear. As a result, the pack is ideal for everything from strolling college campuses to serving as a carry-on for cross-country flights. The laptop slot is particularly handy, as it protects your notebook computer should you accidentally drop the pack, take a bumpy bike ride across town, or stuff it in an airline overhead. The other pockets, meanwhile, can store such items as toiletries, school supplies, and small electronics.

The Tumalo is no slouch from a comfort perspective, either, with a full-length padded back support and laminated S-curve shoulder straps with EVA foam. The padded shoulder straps ensure extra comfort even when the cyberpack is fully loaded, while the back support's wicking knit polyester material is designed to keep you cool on hot afternoons. Of course, staying hydrated is also important, which is why the Tumalo includes a pair of expandable industrial-mesh water bottle pockets, each of which accommodates a 1-quart bottle (sold separately). And should you need a little extra inspiration while strolling, turn to the MP3 player pocket and its deluxe cast-zinc metal cord port--a great way to groove to your favorite tunes without exposing your audio player to the elements. Other details include multiple daisy chain attachment points, a key clip, a 1-inch tubular haul loop filled with EPDM rubber, a deluxe organizer panel, and reflective safety accents.

The Tumalo, which is made of 600D polyester and sports sturdy taped seams and abrasion-resistant zippers, measures 13 by 18 by 8 inches (W x H x D). It's also backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

About Columbia Sportswear
Founded in 1938, Columbia Sportswear Company has grown from a small family-owned hat distributor to one of the world's largest outerwear brands and the leading seller of ski-wear in the United States. Columbia's extensive product line includes a wide variety of outerwear, sportswear, rugged footwear and accessories. Columbia specializes in developing innovative products that are functional yet stylish and offer great value. Eighty-year-old matriarch Gert Boyle, Chairman of the Board, and her son, Tim Boyle, President and CEO, lead the company.

Columbia's history starts with Gert's parents, Paul and Marie Lamfrom, when they fled Germany in 1937. They bought a small hat distributorship in Portland, Oregon, and named it Columbia Hat Company, after the river bordering the city. Soon frustrated by poor deliveries from suppliers, the Lamfroms decided to start manufacturing products themselves. In 1948, Gert married college sweetheart Neal Boyle, who joined the family business and later took the helm of the growing company. When Neal suddenly died of a heart attack in 1970, Gert enlisted help from Tim, then a college senior. After that, it wasn't long before business really started to take off. Columbia was one of the first companies to make jackets from waterproof/breathable fabric. They introduced the breakthrough technology called the Columbia Interchange System, in which a shell and liner combine for multiple wearing options. In the early 1980s, then 60-year-old Gert began her role as "Mother Boyle" in Columbia's successful and popular advertising campaign.

The company went public in 1998 and moved into a new era as a world leader in the active outdoor apparel industry. Today, Columbia Sportswear employs more than 1,800 people around the world and distributes and sells products in more than 50 countries and to more than 12,000 retailers internationally.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Good value for the price   April 28, 2008
This bag has enough space for my laptop and a few books, a 1 lt. bottle of water and more, it is comfortable to wear, and seems to be sturdy enough for normal daily use (not outdoors) I would not know how it ages, but it seems to be well built, so I would expect it to last for a while.

4 out of 5 stars great school backpack   January 10, 2008

A comfortable and durable backpakc. The EVA padded shoulder straps and back support are very comfortable and the handle is robust and comfortalbe. The laptop sleeve is big, can fit 15 inch laptop nicely. ( for 14 inch laptop, a bit loose). You back can get wet on a hiking trip because the back support will be stay close to your back and no mesh is used on the back support and straps.
