The best backpack I've had. November 23, 2008 I bought this backpack at Academy Sports and Outdoors. A little expensive, and I never thought I would spend that much on a backpack, but I needed a good, well made, backpack big enough for all my stuff. This was the perfect backpack. I could fit my glasses, wallet, law books, binder, PT Gear, tennis shoes, etc. To make a long story short, it held up really well. Never tore inside or out. Still almost looks brand new. I don't go to school anymore, but I still use it. It's great.
Excellent campus backpack October 8, 2008 This backpack was a gift for my fiance, who spends anywhere from 8 to 12 hours on a college campus. He's a grad student with classes, research, and a teaching assistanceship, so he has a lot of stuff to carry around. This bag alleviated a lot of the pressure from his back caused by the weight of his load. The fabric is very durable and really great for rainy days when he doesn't have an umbrella. Everything inside stays dry. There are two side pockets you can use for easy access to pens and pencils or you can fit a bottle of water in one when it's fully unzipped (16.9oz). The pockets on the front are nice. The very top pocket is padded nicely for electronics (ipods, cell phones, etc.) and there is an earphone opening. There is a larger pocket for smaller odds and ends--CDs, calculators, what have you. There are little pockets inside of this pouch. The insulated pocket is great for a commuter student because you can pack a sandwich or snack and it will stay cool and relatively un-smooshed. The main compartment zips the whole way down. There is a nice slot against the back where you could place a laptop or papers/folders you don't want to crinkle while in transport. There is another "pocket" on the inside but you access it from the side of the bag, if that makes sense. It looks kind of like a shoe bag, but it doesn't seem large enough for adult shoes. I don't know what he'll use that for. I think it would be handy to store a wet umbrella or a winter hat/scarf.
I filled this backpack with my daily load of books and whatnot and tried it on. For me, it was a bit uncomfortable because I'm a shorter person and this pack is longer than what I would normally use. However, my fiance is a bigger guy with a broad back and shoulders, and the backpack is very comfortable for him to wear for extended periods of time. He usually walks 10-15 minutes around his college campus several times a day with this pack fully loaded. He said the special foamy padding on the back and the straps is extremely comfortable and releases stress from his back. He neither likes nor uses the straps that click together across the chest, but that is more of a personal preference.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this bag but to taller or bigger people who have a lot to carry. I gave four stars because I think the price is a bit stingy, but Amazon has the lowest price for this backpack. It's on eBags.com, too, but if you purchase it on Amazon, you get free shipping.
Great bag to walk around in...but... August 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this bag at a brick and mortar store and used it for a couple of weeks.
The good: -Reasonably priced -attractive -durable -lots of space/pockets
The bad: -I wanted to use this bike for commuting to class via bike. The strap on the top of the bag is EXTREMELY uncomfortable for any other position than standing - it digs into your neck.
This reason alone made me return the bag.
