Shipping October 5, 2008 This is an update to my first review, which reflected my unhappiness with the vendor regarding the length of time in shipping the textbook purchased. Subsequent to the first review, the vendor contacted me and credited the entire amount of the purchase with an apology. While a credit of the shipping charge which was unsolocited would have sufficed, I wanted to make potential buyers aware that this particular vendor went out of his way to address the matter and he would be someone I would use again and would recommend to any potential buyer.
Amazing Purchase October 4, 2008 I purchased this book off Amazon due to its expensive price elsewhere. Amazon offered it for half the price and brand new at that. It was delivered befoe my next class and looked amazing. Trust me this is one great purchase so don't stutter to try it for yourself.
You're going to love this atlas October 3, 2008 Taking a Geography/Anthropology class? Looking for an atlas that 1) won't break the bank, 2) is small and portable enough that its convenient, 3) is easily navigable and well organized, and 4)is comprehensive with very detailed and up to date maps? Then this is it. Covering every region of every continent, including global and regional thematic maps (ex. mineral production, trade of natural resources, etc.), this atlas really offers a lot to its readers (so much so that one of my geography teachers once said that a copy of this atlas should be next to the Bible in hotel rooms). Included in is a exhaustive index with easy to understand references. I've used a lot of atlases in the past (i'm a geography teacher myself) and this is the one I recommend to my students and anyone else interested interested in our world.
An essential acquisition for college and public libraries September 6, 2008 Rand McNally is a premiere publishers of useful resources providing reliable maps and atlases of information, instruction and general interest for the traveler. "Goode's World Atlas: 21st Edition" under the expert editorship of Howard Veregin is an visually pleasing and easy to follow world atlas. Featured in this new edition are world, continental and regional population density maps that have been recreated using LandScan, a digital population database, several new world thematic maps including HIV Infection, Military Power, Women's Right and Food Aid. A global telecommunications map showing the submarine fiber-optic network, worldwide internet and telephone usage. Cartograms are easier to read, expanded maps provide additional coverage of key census variable and additions of graphs to maps showing important statistical information, trends over time and relationships between variables. Easy to read, with quick reference material, this 21st Edition of "Goode's World Atlas" is an essential acquisition for college and public libraries, and very highly recommended for personal and family reference shelves.
Is Goodes Good? March 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Goode's atlas is lacking in cohesiveness. The maps often are bound so far into the page it is difficult to find a map item that is close to the inside edge of the page. A map of a country often does not have the same detail for a bordering country on the same page (example: I would expect to see the area surrounding Basel, SW on the maps of Germany or France). I would also have liked to see a single map devoted to an single country for most countries (a map of Spain and Portugal is common, but a map of Italy should show only Italy and portions of bordering countries).
