4 out of 5 stars Great Bag! Just one minor detail..   March 27, 2008
First, the good stuff.
-Deceptively big. Maybe it's because this is my first "manbag," and I'm just used to backbacks, but this bag does not look or feel nearly as bulky as previous backbacks.
-Lots 'o' pockets. Some of them are fairly large, too. The varied size, shape, and location of the pockets is quite handy. The 'cell phone' compartment is absolutely perfect for my iPod (30G video, with iSkin cover). The pockets on the sides are a neat effect; it's great to have a pen always at my fingertips. I also like the firm main compartment separators on both sides of the bag. I haven't had much use for the engineers' tools pouches on the back, but they're handy for highlighters.
-It just fits my style. I looked long and hard for a manbag. I write a lot, but as a working professional I dropped the backpack look years ago--and subsequently began losing my notes and things. However, I did not want anything flashy.
-The strap is handy. I add this because there's a review claiming the lack of swivels to be a negative. I disagree; swivels tend to get stuck and make it easier for straps to twist to oblivion. This bag, however, avoids that by fixed clasps.

Now for the cons (yes, you usually read that after 'pro' but it's my review and I'll be cheeky if I want to)
-That screwy main compartment clasp! Holy Heck and tedious tarnations! Some days I have no problem, and it feels like I've learned 'the trick.' Other days, however, it just won't budge without several minutes' worth of fidgeting. It's a major drawback and is worth a full star.
-The smell. I find it hard to believe that nobody picked up on this. The bag smells. I think it's glue, but it could be from the material itself. Nobody else around me notices, but it's enough to catch my nostrils' attention. If your olfactory offends easily, you may wish to keep the packaging on this one.

All in all, I love the bag. I'm thinking about getting it for a friend (an engineering grad student), and I definitely recommend it to just about anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Bag   February 22, 2008
This bag is very useful. It has a lot of space for a laptop with extra room for books, folders, etc. There are also many pockets of various sizes that are secure and efficient. I won't need another bag for a very long time as the fabric is quite sturdy. I bought the olive green one and am very pleased with it's appearance. I even got one for my brother as a gift.

5 out of 5 stars exactly what i wanted...and then some   December 3, 2007

i spent a lot of time searching for a bag to carry with a specific purpose in mind. when i found this one, i was certain it would serve the purpose i had in mind. it did just that and then some.

i carry this bag each day to work. my job, as well as my personal life, keep me on the road quite a lot. consequently, much of my "world" has to be able to travel with me. the engineer's bag allows me to take the things with me that i will need throughout my days and do so in a pretty organized fashion. i really appreciate the exceptional number of pockets and slots and compartments, which are in a variety of sizes and locations. the size of the bag itself is incredibly convenient...not so small to make it impractical but not so large that you need a front-end loader to get it from car to office.

i noted a few sour reviews of the bag when i was researching. could you find a bag with better workmanship or better hardware or whatever? sure. i'm sure you probably could. and you could spend three times as much for it, too, i'm quite certain. this bag is going to hold up for a very reasonable amount of time, and i'd suspect it'll endure until any of us is ready to move onto something new.

for me, the price of this bag was very right, and i feel that i got good value for my expenditure. i've been using it for probably a month now, and i'm extremely satisified...even gleeful...with what it offers and how it performs.

4 out of 5 stars not for the heavy traveller   November 24, 2007

I got this bag a little over half a year ago, and have been using it to lug around my laptop, books, and other things, for all the way until a few days ago. I'm quite pleased with the many pockets, plenty of places to put all my bicycle stuff (spare tube, patch kit, etc.), and a good sized front pocket which is able to fit a textbook (or two if you want to stretch it) with a laptop in the back pocket (my 15.4" fit perfectly).

I stopped using it because I started seeing signs of it falling apart, and feared for the safety of my laptop, and for the bag itself. I still am going to use it to carry around light things, like if I want to just take a clipboard, a binder, and some pencils/pens, since it's fine as long as I'm not abusing it too badly.

This bag isn't for everybody. If you like lots of pockets, don't mind the two pockets, don't mind the fact that the bottom of the back pocket is a zipper, don't need it to carry around heavy stuff, and you like the design, go for it. I'm going to use mine to bring to interviews; it looks professional, at least more so than my bright green/orange/white/black bag I am currently using for my laptop and books.

It seems extremely durable so far compared to other bags I've owned, and it has a huge number of pockets to fit any kind of object you'd want to carry around with you. The delivery was also quite speedy despite it not being from amazon. Arrived at my house within a few days.
